How do you set-up your Hotmail account for Yahoo! Messenger?

my friends did it with gmail on MSN live. It is possible with Yahoo! messenger as well! (logging in Yahoo! Messenger with a non-yahoo! id/email account).

When i signed in, I received an instant message from some support staff and it said that i needed to change my hotmail ID or i will not be able to use it ,but when i tried to change it, even though I really don't want to, it said that it was not possible at that time. what can i do? should i change my Id? does this has happened to you?

i reckon it's either your internet conection or its settings. however if other websites are opening fine it would not be your connection but your settings that has disabled the cookies or something. sometimes it's the msn server which temporary plays up. try uninstalling and intalling the msn again. or try webmessenger.msn.com (no www in front of this url). also try contacting the msn lot as they do get back to you quite quickly.

This happend when your Internet Explorer is not properly configured.... i bet you are using another browser like Opera or Mozilla.

If you can get IE to open up www.msn.com, then msn messenger automatically starts working.

Go to IE, click on tools and Internet options and connections, lan settings and make sure your usual internet connection in showing up there.

yahoo and rogers clients are assigned automatically, but when I switched to beta my other contacts did not activate in the instant messenger category. Once they have added you, they will always be on their allow list. Although if you have blocked them, they will never see you online. To remove them from your list, right click on them and delete. But keep them blocked, you can see who is blocked in your options menu.

Make sure you have another email account (hotmail, googlemail, whatever), download Skype as a backup for Instant Messenger (it's a lot more solid ~ less dropouts), and if you happen to have a Yahoo360 blog, go look into Multiply instead.

i read somwhere that if you type regedit into run you should go to hkey_current_user, software, microsoft, MSNmessenger, than policies, they said delete the policies link and it should work.,.....many people said it worked but the only problem is that i couldn't find it under what i just told, u... tell me if you find it and if it works....

When i click add contact to add a hotmail address, theres no drop-down list of networks (yahoo, windows live). It's just a plain field for the ID or email address. When i type the whole email address, it doesnt add the contact but instead sends an invitation.

I'm having problems with Windows Messenger and Hotmail?

I've had MSN Hotmail for over two years, and I like it. The problem is, they are constantly updating things. I have the messenger, and it pops up and tells me when I have an email, with a button that takes me directly to the hotmail webpage. Perfectly fine.

However, recently a new feature came on, that if you click it, it sets you up with an Outlook type program that has to download your emails and such every time. It's annoyingly slow, and I want to get rid of it. I want it to take me back to the hotmail site for my email. Any suggestions?

You could try going into your ADD/REMOVE programs and removing anything for outlook express on your computer. Then when you sign into it again watch what pops up and see if you cant delete that. Another option would just be to make an icon linked to your e-mail and have it save your upassword thats what I have been doign since the update cause that is a stupid problem to have.

i am experiencing the same problem. i own a yahoo messenger account.

i was surprise to see myself log on from a co-workers desk. i asked my co worker to send a message... and this was the reply:

Reply:Sounds like you picked up a virus.

Immediately have your computer checked for a bug or 'bugs.'

Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet.

I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also.

Changing your password may not be enough to secure your E-mail account again, but try it and see how it behaves.

You may have to open a new one with a different ID name and password.

Hotmail contacts appearing on my MSN messenger?

I recently added some contacts to my Hotmail account and i have noticed them on my MSN messenger. Do all new contacts appear on MSN or have i accidentally added them to my messenger?

The logo next to the new names are like little books whereas the normal contacts have a little logo that appears to be an upper body (head, arms, torso etc..) I don't know if that means anything though...

Hotmail contacts will automatically appear on MSN and if you add contacts via MSN, they will be added to your Hotmail list. This is usually true for Hotmail / Live e-mail addresses.

The little books icon means those are your non-messaging contacts. You can always move them into your messaging list. The upper body icon that you mentioned is to show a person's status (whether they are offline, online, away, busy etc)

And yes, deleteing a contact from MSN will result in a deletion from HOtmail and vice versa

The little books show that you cannot contact them through MSN.

You don't really need to worry about it, I think pretty much everyone that uses hotmail for email, and uses MSN for messenger deals with the same thing.

Reply:They always add themselves at the very bottom of your contacts list. You can't take them off of your MSN, but you can go to your contacts box and find a button when adding them that you can add them just to your contacts book and not your MSN.

I recently installed the "Windows Live Mail" software -- that is the new email client which is supposed to replace Outlook Express for Windows.

I get most my email through Hotmail, and when I run Windows Live Messenger I get a popup that notifies me when I get a new message. It used to be that when clicking on the popup for a new email, it would take me straight to the Hotmail website. But now it takes me to "Windows Live Mail" software instead. Is there a way I can set my preference to always go to the Hotmail website instead of the software? I know I could just uninstall the "Windows Live Mail" client, but is there a way to set a preference to open the Hotmail website when I click the email link in Windows Live Messenger?

I've tried everything, if you give me an option, I've tried it, unless there is something else I'm missing.

I've been trying to change my hotmail password for the longest time, I've changed it logging in through windows live, get the password changed, it's verified, but when it comes time to log into MSN Messenger, it doesn't recognize the password, the old one is still there. I went into control panel to check the password save list, and there's nothing there. This has been going on for years, and the only way I can change this is if I change login names all together. I really don't want to stop using this address, had it since 1999. What else can I do? Anyone??

Reply:What kind of error are you getting? If it's a 404 error, try using a different browser. Also, if you have a slow connection, but lots of MSN add-ons, or tons of in-box emails, it could be timing out before it finishes.

You can use any e-mail provider you like. Go to www.Passport.Net, and create an account there, using the e-mail address that you got from the "whatever" e-mail provider you like. Then you can sign on MSN with it, using the password you created on Passport.NET .. *not* your actual e-mail's password. Keep that in mind. But, it would be easier to have the same password for both, then again, you can do whatever you like =) ..

(FYI: Gmail doesn't require you to create a Passport account thing. But I dunno about other e-mail services..)

When you go to that website, look under "Sign up today", and click on the link that's under "Use an e-mail address you already have".

Yes. It is determined by the connection. Once the user on the other end closes the conversation, he/she disconnects from a centralized connection with you.

Basically, when you view all connections with messenger discovery, it shows who you're connected to - close the chat and it will vanish. That's as good as saying they've closed the conversation.

It seems that you have somewhere put your e-mail adress a place where spammers can harvest it. You might have been using hotmail for longer and thats why you might be getting more spam. Or it could be just that yahoo catches spam better than hotmail.

As long as you log in within 120 days via messenger your account will remain active because technically you're still using that account for something. Now if you don't log in to messenger OR your actual e-mail inbox for 120 days then yes the account will be deleted.
Reply:i do not think you can still use msn messenger when you have deleted your hootmail account because you will need a vaild email adress to use, also it will delete all of your contacts on hotmail and it will delete them on messenger aswell.

If you want all your emails to show up in one place then you need to download the windows live mail desktop. Which you can find on www.live.com Unfortunately you need to have Yahoo Plus for it to work. Other than that, try configure your outlook.

Reply:No its not...i blocked and deleted an ex- (various reasons) and she emailed me fine...'blocked' just applies to messenger. (i assume that's coz you can just ignore emails)...if you want to block someone on hotmail there are ways to do that though (you can block address' from sending you anything)

MSN Messenger and Hotmail not working?

Hi, does anybody know why MSN Messenger won't sign in?? All that is happening is I type my e-mail address and password like it says and then it just keeps saying Signing In. At the moment, it is still saying Signing In, 1 hour and 15 minutes after I typed my address and password. And also when I try and access Hotmail and any other MSN related sites, it doesn't let me on them. Does anybody know why?? Please help me out here because I have been without the internet for more than 6 months, got it back today and I can't even access my MSN Messenger account OR my Hotmail account.

I used to have this problem and this is how I fixed it,

1. Verify that the sound schemes are defined in the registry:

a. Right-click the MSN Messenger icon, and then click Exit.

b. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

c. Click HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

d. Click AppEvents, and then click EventLabels.

e. Verify that MSNMSGR_ContactOnline is listed in the EventLabels folder. If it is not listed, do the following:

a. Click EventLabels.

b. Select Edit from the menu bar.

c. Select New, and then click Key.

I think the MSN server went down because the other day all of my friends and I tried to get onto MSN but it was playing up so maybe that's why. Although i'm not sure about this.

1- if you have signed in msn on a public computer (in a cyber or netcafe), you might have forgot to sign out or you ticked the box saying sign me in automatically by mistake, and the rede person who came after you did this...

2- your email is hacked...

3- someone knows your password and did this..

if you have msn plus you can go to plus! %26gt;%26gt; then contacts on desktop and you will find all of them there and you can add them again.

I use my yahoo account and its fine. You have to create a .NET passport and use your normal address when you create that then it should let you sign up with it.

Reply:first you have to remove the messenger live. Go to add/remove and remove the window live messenger. Then go to hotmail.com and sign in. You should get linked to old msn hotmail. If not you may have to download it. You can download it from here.

I am suddenly having problems accessing the above. I have changed nothing on my computer. Just switched on yesterday to find I cannot use Hotmail through Outlook, and cannot log into MSN Live Messenger. When I try to log into messenger I get this message: "Signing into Windows Live Messenger Failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code: 80040111." When I try to use Outlook, it shows a problem synchronizing headers - reported error (0x80040111).

Any ideas? My husband is not having any problems with messenger and doesn't use Outlook.
Problems accessing Hotmail and MSN messenger?
I had the same problem a few times last week and when I looked on their service status it said everything was OK . I had to shut down and reboot on all occassions.

I thought it may have been the new wireless router we have recently installed as we are experiencing problems with it maintaining the IP address for the X box but thinking about it logically if it was working OK for accessing all ather internet sites on the PC it could not be selectively blocking or not routing to MSN. I think it must be one of MSN or Hotmails servers at fault.

first we did spybot and adaware then rebooted and we awere able to sign on.

Reply:I have the same problems. I find that if you open your msn messenger first then click on mail it get you there far quicker. Failing that l just keep trying sometimes the service get's overloaded. Persistence is the key. Good luck.

you can create a sharing folder ..when the contact goes offline add a file to the folder, when the contact is really offline you will recieve an error message that he/she is offline .. if he/she is using the offline status the sharing folder will update introducing the file

I don't have any problems signing into MSN Messenger and from lack of response, doesn't seem that anyone else does either.

Your account should not be closed unless you haven't signed in for 30 days. (which I believe is their grace period). You are right, they do delete everything if you pass that time, which I think is rather inconvenient (to say the least).

You can try signing in from another computer to prevent your account from being deleted for the time being. I would try removing badware and see if it's the cause.

To clean your computer, follow these steps. These tools are verified by me and several IT professionals to be safe and free.

1. Download adaware from http://www.download.com/3000-2144-100459...

2. Install adaware and run it at least once to update the definition files.

3. Download and install spybot S%26amp;D from

4. Install SpyBot and run it at least once to update the program.

5. Restart your computer, and hit F8 before the Windows loading screen comes up.

Reply:If you want to change it back, it should ask you when you open MSN, and your default mail client whether you want to change it back. If it doesn't, check the options to make sure that option is enabled.

Use the voice option on MSN, you will need a microphone and speakers as will they but then you can talk for a s long as you want.

Yes using MSN Messenger will help type in the text using a keyboard
Reply:You can use MSN messenger or any other messenger to setup a chatroom and then have a chat. You cannot use your keyboard to make a phone call or anything like that. If you wish to talk you can use a microphone with your messenger and talk to your family in Australia.

Changing Hotmail Accounts, but Keeping Messenger?

I'm going into the process from changing my current email (an old Hotmail account) into something better. My new email will have an @live.ca tag. Currently, my instant messenger is set up to my old email account. Is there any way to transfer all my contacts over to my new account, without having to get everyone to reconfirm me?

Reply:You'll find an option for importing contacts in your new email account. DO NOT delete your old account until you have imported your contacts and confirmed it on your other account. There's also an Export option in the "Options" tab once you sign in. As for signing into messenger, all you have to do is click "Switch User" and put in your new account. Your contacts will be there.
